THE RODEO ROAD TRIP HITS A POTHOLE: SPURS SNAP STREAK IN NYC, BUT DON’T PANIC YET

Look, all good things must come to an end. Your favorite pair of jeans, that leftover pizza in the fridge, and apparently, the San Antonio Spurs' absolute heater of a winning streak. After 11 straight victories where they looked like they were playing on rookie mode, the Spurs finally hit a wall at Madison Square Garden, falling 114-89 to the New York Knicks.
Was it ugly? Yeah, it was a "four-day-old gas station sushi" kind of ugly. But before everyone starts jumping off the Wemby bandwagon, let’s take a breath.
The MSG Hangover
The Spurs walked into the Garden looking like a team that’s been living out of suitcases for a month—because they have. The Rodeo Road Trip is a brutal stretch, and the Knicks—who are actually elite this year, terrifyingly enough—capitalized on every tired leg.
The Spurs only managed 89 points, their lowest output of the season. The bounces weren't going their way, the whistles were silent, and the 3-point line was a literal disaster zone.
Category | Spurs | Knicks |
Total Points | 89 | 114 |
FG % | 41% | 48% |
3PT % | 26% (9-34) | 41% (15-37) |
Leading Scorer | Victor Wembanyama (25 pts) | Mikal Bridges (25 pts) |
Victor Wembanyama did his best to carry the load with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 blocks, but he was a lonely man out there. One for seven from deep? That’s going to haunt his dreams tonight. Meanwhile, the Knicks' duo of Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson combined for 49 points, proving that NYC might actually have a basketball team again.
The "Pistons Rule" Logic
The craziest part of the podcast discussion? The Spurs just absolutely dismantled the Detroit Pistons (winning 114-103) right before this. And the Pistons? They’ve beaten the Knicks three times this season. NBA math is a lie, folks. There is no logic, only vibes.
The turning point was a horrific 26-2 run by the Knicks in the first half. You can't give up a 24-point swing to a playoff team and expect to win. It just doesn't happen unless you're playing against 12-year-olds.
Zooming Out: February Was Still Legend-Tier
Even with this loss, let's look at what this team did in February:
Record: 11-0 (Perfect month)
Average PPG: 124
Field Goal %: 50%
Assists per Game: 31
Historical Stat: First team in NBA history to go unbeaten in a month while scoring 110+ in every game (min. 10 games).
They are still sitting pretty in the West, currently 2nd (43-17) and just 3 games back from the Oklahoma City Thunder. They officially met Phil Jackson’s "40 before 20" rule (40 wins before 20 losses), which is the universal signal for "Yeah, these guys are winning a ring".
What’s Next?
The Spurs are heading to Philadelphia on Tuesday to wrap up the road trip before finally returning home to face the Pistons on March 5th. Plus, they just shored up the bench by signing veteran center Mason Plumlee for the rest of the season.
210 Fast Break Take: I’m calling it now. Spurs vs. Knicks in the NBA Finals. Spurs in six. This loss was just a wake-up call to remind the league that even gods can bleed.
