Following a significant NBA Cup victory against a division rival, the San Antonio Spurs are poised for another major boost as star guard De'Aaron Fox is confirmed to return to the lineup.

In the latest episode of "The 210 Fast Break" podcast, the host broke down the Spurs' impressive 121-110 home win over the Houston Rockets and discussed the major lineup implications of Fox's return.

"Lights-Out" Shooting Dominates Rockets

The Spurs had a "very strong performance" against a "dynamic" Rockets team that featured 24 points from Kevin Durant and 25 from Alperen Şengün.

San Antonio's offense, however, proved too much. The "big story of the night," according to the host, was the explosive shooting from Harrison Barnes and Julian Champagnie, who "each had six three-pointers made".

Key performers for the Spurs included:

  • Harrison Barnes: 24 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists

  • Julian Champagnie: 22 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist

  • Victor Wembanyama: 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks

  • Devin Vassell: 15 points, including four three-pointers

  • Stefon Castle: 14 points and a standout 13 assists

The host praised Castle in particular, noting, "You can really see him looking the floor, finding open man, and getting them the ball". The win demonstrated the team's significant improvement in closing out games in the 4th quarter, a weakness in previous seasons.

The Big Return: Fox is Back

The podcast host confirmed the major news that guard De'Aaron Fox is set to return to the team on Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans. Fox, who averaged "about 24 points per game" last year, is expected to be an "immediate pick me up for the team" and is an "overall game manager".

A New-Look Lineup?

Fox's return immediately raised the question of who will move from the starting lineup. The host offered his personal prediction:

  • Predicted Starting 5: De'Aaron Fox at the one, Stefon Castle at the two, Devin Vassell at the three, Harrison Barnes at the four, and Victor Wembanyama at the five.

This move would send Julian Champagnie to the bench, creating what the host described as an incredibly deep second unit.

  • Predicted Bench Unit at Full Strength: Dylan Harper, Julian Champagnie, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, and Luke Kornet.

"This is an amazing bench that we have, and we have a lot of depth," the host said, noting that several of those bench players could be starters on other teams.

Looking Ahead to the Pelicans

With Fox's return, the upcoming game against a "very good" New Orleans Pelicans team will be the first chance for fans to see the Spurs' offense "at its full strength almost".

The host concluded with a high outlook for the team, calling them a "very high-caliber team" and a "playoff team" that he expects to go deep in the NBA Cup tournament.

The Spurs' next game against the Pelicans will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network Southwest and on the radio on WOAI (1200 AM) and KXTN.
